Cheesesteak-style Tofurky Italian Sausages

If you’re looking for a way to spruce up some standard vegan grillables such as the Tofurky Italian Sausage, consider trying this method of added grilled peppers and onions and Daiya mozzarella shreds to make what I guess I’d called a cheese-steak style Italian sausage.

Cut up some green bell pepper and white onion into somewhat-thick strips, then put them in a glass container along with a bit of olive oil (just enough to coat the veggies), some seasoned salt, pepper, red pepper blacks, and garlic & herb seasoning. After putting the lid on the container, shake it around a bit to mix everything up nicely, then let it sit for a while, shaking it up again here and there.

Heat your grill to medium-high heat. Lay a sheet of aluminum foil down on the grill, and spread the peppers and onions out evenly. Close the lid, cook for a few minutes, then turn them around, or just stir them up a bit. This was the point at which I added the sausages to the grill and cooked them according to the package directions, which doesn’t take long. After turning the veggies, sprinkle some of the Daiya mozzarella shreds on top, close the lid, and cook for a few more minutes, turning the sausages when necessary.

Serve the sausage in a bun, with some of the peppers and cheese placed on top. I added some Sriracha and some Dave’s scorpion pepper hot sauce.
